Q. Is there one Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programme?

A. No. In total there are 14 separate frequent flyer programmes, all operating independently. To take advantage of the Star Alliance network, all your customers need to do is join one of the programmes. You will be able to earn and redeem miles or points with one programme across all 17 Star Alliance airlines. The programmes available to choose from include:

  • Asiana Airlines - Asiana Club

Q. How does a customer join?

A. In order to enjoy frequent flyer programme benefits, customers must first join one of the 14 Star Alliance airline frequent flyer programmes. We recommend that you join the programme of the airline your customer is most likely to travel most often. To join a programme, customers can visit one of the airline websites for further programme information.


Q. Is there an additional card for Star Alliance as well as for individual Star Alliance airlines?

A. No, there is no Star Alliance membership card. Membership cards are issued only for an individual airline frequent flyer programme.


Q. Can customers earn miles or points with all Star Alliance airlines?

A. Yes. Provided they are a member of one of the Star Alliance airline frequent flyer programmes, they'll be able to earn miles or points on all qualifying flights across the network - on all Star Alliance airlines. A qualifying flight is any flight that is eligible to earn miles or points. For information on fares eligible for miles or points you will need to refer to the Terms and Conditions of the relevant frequent flyer programme.


Q. How do customers earn miles or points with Star Alliance airlines?

A. To earn miles or points you simply need to ensure that your customers' frequent flyer membership number is entered into the booking reservation at the time of booking. In addition, customers should show their membership card when checking in for their flight.


Q. What happens if a customers' account is not credited with miles or points on a Star Alliance flight?

A. Customers will need to contact your frequent flyer programme service centre directly.


Q. Can miles or points be transferred between Star Alliance airline programmes?

A. No. Once miles or points have been earned in one programme, customers are not able to transfer that balance to another programme within the alliance. All programmes remain independent.


Q. Can customers combine miles or points for free tickets?

A. No. Miles or points cannot be combined between Star Alliance airline frequent flyer programmes.


Q. Can customers redeem miles or points for awards on Star Alliance airlines?

A. Yes. Customers are able to use their miles or points accumulated in one programme for travel awards on any of the Star Alliance airlines. For information and/or booking information, customers should refer to their frequent flyer programme directly.


Q. How do customers redeem miles or points on Star Alliance airline flights?

A. To use your miles or points on another Star Alliance airline, customers should contact their frequent flyer programme service centre directly - not the airline they wish to necessarily travel on.


Q. Can customers use miles or points to Upgrade on Star Alliance airline flights?

A. Apart from a couple of exceptions, customers are unable to use their miles or points in their frequent flyer programme for upgrades on other Star Alliance airlines.


Q. Can customers earn miles or points toward elite status on Star Alliance airlines?

A. Yes. All Star Alliance flights that are eligible for miles or points accumulation also count towards qualification toward elite status within your customers' chosen frequent flyer programme.


Q. What is Star Alliance Silver and Star Alliance Gold status?

A. Star Alliance Silver and Star Alliance Gold status are additional benefits that customers become entitled to when they reach a particular status level in their individual airline frequent flyer programme. These benefits are available to them on any of the Star Alliance airlines, anywhere on the network. The benefits are:

Star Alliance Round the World Fares

Q.What are the main features of the Star Alliance Round-the-World Ticket?

A. The main features of the Round-the-World fare include:


  • You can travel with any Star Alliance member airline subject to some flight exceptions. Start and end of your journey have to be located in the same country and one Atlantic and one Pacific crossing have to be included in your itinerary.
  • Star Alliance Round-the-World fares are available for travel in First, Business or Economy Class.
  • There are 3 fare levels, allowing you to travel up to 29,000, 34,000 or 39,000 miles. The exact fares will depend on the origin and the class of service of your journey.
  • There is no high season surcharge, so it does not matter when you depart. You simply need to determine the class of service and the total mileage you need.
  • If your journey originates in Canada, USA or Mexico, you can buy your ticket up to seven days before departure. In all other cases, you can buy your ticket at any time before you depart.
  • Your journey may last any time between 10 days and a year. You can change the dates of most of your flights at any time, except for those flights up to and including your first international or intercontinental journey. For a small fee, you will be permitted to change destinations.
  • You can take as few as three, or as many as 15 stopovers in different cities (within the permitted mileage). The maximum number of stopovers within certain regions may be limited.
  • The fares and more specific conditions for a Round the World ticket will depend on where you start your journey. In order to find out specific information, please be advised that you should contact your travel agent or your nearest Star Alliance member airline's reservation department. Either of these two contacts will be able to provide you with the information you are looking for.

Star Alliance North America Airpass

Q.What are the main features of the Star Alliance North America Airpass?

A. The main features of this Airpass include:


  • Any number between 3 and 10 flight coupons (2 to ten coupons if travel is solely within Mexico)
  • Valid for travel in Economy Class
  • Average fare per coupon may be as low as 130 US$, depending on season, total number of coupons and origin of travel
  • Valid on most flights by Star Alliance member carriers Air Canada and United
  • Travel may last up to two months
  • Except for the first coupon, reservations can be made at any time
  • As long as the routing is not changed, reservations may even be changed at any time.

Q.Are there any conditions attached to the Star Alliance North America Airpass?

A. Yes, there are a few simple conditions:


  • Travel using the coupons of this Airpass has to commence in Canada, Mexico or the Continental USA
  • Each city may only be visited twice, except for change of flights only
  • Some restrictions apply with regard to the choice of flights
  • This Airpass is available only to residents of countries other than Canada/Mexico/USA or any Caribbean country
  • It is sold only in conjunction with travel to/from Canada/Mexico/USA from/to outside Canada/Mexico/USA on services of Star Alliance carriers
  • Only one Airpass can be purchased in conjunction with each international ticket to/from Canada/Mexico/USA

A. Fares are determined by the number of coupons, season of travel, point of ticket purchase, plus applicable taxes or fees. Some surcharges apply for travel to/from Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare

Q.What are the main features of the new Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare?

A. The main features of the Airfare include:


  • A circular trip around the Pacific Ocean, limited by a maximum mileage of 22,000 or 26,000 miles, depending on your choice.
  • The Airfare is available in First Class, Business Class and Economy Class.
  • Travel must originate and terminate in the same country, which has to be one of the following: Australia, Brunei, Canada/USA (considered one country for this purpose), China, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Philippines, Western Samoa, Singapore, Tahiti, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Vietnam.
  • For travel to/from/via the USA or Canada, only the following cities may be included in your itinerary: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Vancouver.
  • The Airfare is valid on most flights operated by Star Alliance member airlines Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai and United serving the countries mentioned above.
  • The ticket has to be purchased 7 days in advance but reservations for many sectors of the journey may be changed during the itinerary (subject to certain restrictions).
  • As long as the routing is not changed, most reservations may even be changed at any time (subject to certain restrictions).

Q.Are there any conditions attached to the Star Alliance Circle Pacific Fare?

A. Yes, there are a few simple conditions:


  • Travel using this Airfare has to commence in one of the countries/cities listed above.
  • Each city may only be visited once; exceptions apply for change of flights only.
  • Some restrictions apply with regard to the choice of flights.
  • Travel may last between 7 days and 6 months.
  • The number of stopovers in any one country may be limited.
  • Travel has to include one North Pacific and one South Pacific crossing and Australia and/or New Zealand and Canada and/orUSA have to be visited.
  • Only one crossing between Asia and the South West Pacific is permitted.
  • A minimum of 3 stopovers is required.

A. Fares are determined by the mileage category, class of travel and origin/destination of the itinerary, plus applicable taxes or fees. For example, a 22,000 miles Circle Pacific Fare from/to New Zealand is currently available for 2939 NZD for travel in Economy Class. A. The main features of this airpass include:


  • Any number between 2 and 10 flight coupons.
  • Valid for travel in Economy Class on selected Air New Zealand flights, travel may last up to 30 days.
  • Except for the first coupon, reservations can be made at any time.
  • As long as the routing is not changed, reservations may be changed at any time.

Q.Are there any conditions attached to the Star Alliance South Pacific Airpass?

A. Yes, there are a few simple conditions:


  • Travel ,using the coupons of this airpass, has to commence in New Zealand/Australia/Cook Islands/Western Samoa/Tonga/Fiji/New Caledonia/Tahiti/Norfolk Island.
  • Each city may be visited only twice, the exception being change of flights. Some restrictions apply with regard to the choice of flights.
  • This airpass is available only to residents of countries other than those countries listed above for commencement of travel.
  • It is sold only in conjunction with travel to/from the abovementioned countries or from/to any other country on services of the Star Alliance carriers, on a ticket issued by a Star Alliance member carrier.
  • Only one airpass can be purchased in conjunction with each international ticket to these countries.
